Of course, when the book landed, he never expected it. Up went his fur and tail and down went his ears. What was the cat trying to do, kill him? However, with a small nosetwitch, he let his fur settle back down before he calmly hopped up onto it.

"I wasn't going to hurt you," Skimble said exasperatedly as he watched Leathik's fur fluff up. "I have learned a thing or two in my years at the station..." He trailed off as Leathik hopped onto the book. "All right, now up here," he said, smiling as he patted the spot next to him on the desk.

"Mew!" He replied in half-exhasperastion. For a moment, his tail just twitched before he leapt up onto the desk edge... barely. His little hindlegs wiggled in the air as he held on, his eyes wide as he barely supported himself on the edge.

"Whoa!" Skimble cried, lunging forward and grabbing Leathik's front paws in his own. "Careful, now..." Slowly he pulled the kitten up onto the desk. "You haven't done a lot of jumping, have you?" he said, though not unkindly.

Shaking his head in reply, Leathik thanked Skimble in a gentletom-ly way... by giving a slight bow. He'd seen another cat do this before, and the other cat loved seeing him do that. However, he started to lick down his fur, as it was still fluffed up from his previous fright.

Skimble laughed as Leathik's awkward bow turned into a bath. "Hey," he said gently, "you seem to have forgotten something..." He gestured toward the dish of cream next to them, then raised his eyebrows, as if to say, "Have at it."

He mewled with a knowing nod, politely moving close to the garbage can and spitting his furball down into there. Turning around to the cream, he made his little way over to it before he leaned down and started to lap. The cool taste made him shiver in delight, and his tail flicked from side to side.
"M-burbleurble"
He tried to mew with his mouth in the cream, but he only managed to make bubbles. A smile broke as he leaned back, licking what had frothed up onto his face off.

Skimble patted Leathik's head gently. "Don't try to talk through a dish of cream," he advised. "More trouble than it's worth."

He nodded in agreement to this, lapping up more and more until his tummy couldn't hold more. Licking the remains of his meal off his nose, the kitten leaned back and let out a small burp, which was proceeded by the covering of his mouth. "Meew!"

"Someone has taught you manners, I have to say," Skimble commented, watching the kitten wash himself delicately. "Bomba's done a good job..." At this the Railway Cat was reminded of their situation, and his cheerful mood diminished slightly.
"We still haven't gotten anywhere," he muttered. "Where would they be?"

The kitten nodded, but sound Skimble's diminishing in mood making him mewl and frown some too. Padding over to him, Leathik sat down. Where could they be? Simeon and the two other kittens... Where?

Skimble noted that Leathik had sat down next to him, and was looking at him with confusion. "Well, I don't know where they are!" he said defensively. "And ... neither do you..."
Acting on impulse, he turned to the kitten next to him, taking a deep breath. "So what say you lead the hunt to find them? Perhaps you'll do a better job than I'm doing," he added, smiling slightly.

The Railway Cat's asking for the kitten to lead the hunt only made the little one blink. Confusion set in. How -could- he lead a hunt to find kittens? He was only one himself? For a moment, he just sat, but he soon let out the tiniest of confused mewls.
"...Meww..?"

"Come on, it's not that difficult," Skimble encouraged, "I'll help you." He jumped off the desk gracefully, onto the book, then leaped onto the floor. "First step, follow me," said the Railway Cat, patting the book. "Careful, now!"

The kitten nodded, looking down at the book. His eyes squinted ever so slightly before he leapt down and onto the book. Skimble's grace could not be matched by the kitten's solid thud. A little mewl came from him as he shook his legs, soon stepping down to the ground by the cat.
