((Characters: Alonzo, Tumblebrutus
Thread Summary: While the Monniks are invading the Junkyard, Alonzo, Mungojerrie, Plato, and Tumblebrutus are out trying to get enough food to feed the Jellicles. They have decided not to return until they had something... but a day and a half in, and their search is still unsuccessful.
The group decides to go visit Jenny, but are chased away by her humans. They then move on to Alonzo's home. There, they ransack Alonzo's kitchen and find packets of tuna fish, which they eat some of, and save the rest to bring to the junkyard.
Upon returning to the junkyard, though, the group discovers that the Monniks have overrun the place, and there is no sign of the Jellicles. Distraught, they begin tracking down the house cat Jellicles, starting with Skimbleshanks, to try and find out what happened to the rest of their tribe.))
Alonzo frowned as he emerged from a tipped-over trashcan. Most of the cans they had found were locked, but even the ones they had managed to get into were useless. It seemed the humans, ever the greedy, had started eating every last crumb.
"Nothing in there," He announced, whiskers twitching. His team had been hunting for half a day now, and the mood had been increasingly gloomy. Mungojerrie had managed to snatch a sandwich, and Tumble had caught a small mouse, but their findings were hardly enough to feed the kittens, let alone a whole tribe. "We'll have to keep looking...or, I don't know..." He shook his head. There weren't many places left to look within the territory, and it would have been suicide to venture outside of it.

Tumble kicked the lid of another trashcan. He had managed to knock this one over, but the lid was refusing to come off. "I can smell something in there," he whined. "But I can't get it!" He leapt onto the side, balancing easily, and smacked his paws against the metal in frustration, before touching his nose to the side. It smelled like chicken, and fish, and all sorts of delicious foods. Sadly, it was locked tight, cat-proof.

Alonzo groaned. He went over to the can, placing his paws firmly upon the lid. He knew attempts to remove it would probably come to nothing, but he could smell food and his stomach growled...He pushed, hard, on the lid...it creaked briefly but didn't budge. "This is awful." He murmured. "There's got to be food, somewhere! Accesible food!" He felt the need to beat the trashcan until it was pulp, but knowing he would get nowhere, restrained himself. "If only we could get to humans to give us food...."

Tumble let his paws slide off the can so he was lying on his stomach, straddling the round can. "I'm so hungry..." he whispered, closing his eyes. "It's been so long since we've eaten..." Carrying that mouse around was hellish - he had food, had it in his mouth... but if he ate it, he'd be taking food from the kittens, from the mothers. He couldn't do that.
He lifted his head to look at Alonzo. "Do you think Mom could help us? She usually stays in all winter... but her humans have all sorts of food."

"Even if she can't, it'd be good to see her and take a moment to rest..." Alonzo sighed. He knew Tumble, 'Jerrie, and Plato were starving...how long would they be able to continue without getting food themselves? "We'll go to her human's den, and rest up. Then we'll figure out what to do. We will find something, I'm sure of it."

Tumble shifted his center of balance and let himself slide off the can, catching himself on all four feet, even if it was less graceful than usual. He slunk over to where he had left the mouse and looked over to Alonzo. "'Lonz? What if we don't?"

Alonzo nuzzled his brother solemnly, staring out into the streets. "Then the junkyard...is finished," He said honestly. "We'll all have to stay with humans." He took a deep breath, "But that's not going to happen. There's a solution, somewhere...if we just make it through the winter..."

Tumble nodded. "And we will, right? We will get through the winter." He bent down and picked up the mouse before gesturing with Alonzo to lead on, plastering false cheer over his expression.

Alonzo nodded, in a slightly absentminded fashion, unwilling to use his voice at the moment. He padded forward in the direction of Jenny's home, his paws nearly slipping in the snow as they shook momentarily.

Tumble followed after Alonzo, trying to keep a bounce in his step and smile on his face, despite everything that was going on. He had to believe that there was hope left. He simply had to. He hummed Jenny's song, unable to sing with a mouse in his mouth.

It was a good ten minutes until they found themselves on the doorstep of Jenny's humans. There had been a neat set of pawprints in the snow, fresh, and Alonzo had no doubt that their mother was inside. He placed his paws against the door and mewed loudly, hoping her humans would open the door.

((I've got a better idea...))
Tumble sat down, still holding the mouse, watching the door. He knew this house, vaguely. He had been born in this house. As soon as he was old enough, though, his mother brought him to Simbol, and he had grown up away from this house.
Pussy-cat? A human came and opened the door, a female human kitten. Ooooh, you're not Pussy-cat! Lotsa Pussy-cats! She reached down to pat Alonzo's head. Mommy, look at all the Pussy-cats!
An older human came to the door and pulled the kitten away. Rebecca, get inside! She grabbed a broom and swatted at the tomcats. Get away! We don't want more kittens!

Alonzo hissed, backing away from the broom, tail twitching angrily. Fur ruffled, he settled down in the alley next to the house. "So much for seeing mom..." He muttered, half to himself. He began grooming himself, trying to ignore the creeping feeling of hopelessness. "Well." He said, and then paused. "Well..." Sighing, he looked up at Tumble, Plato, and Mungojerrie. "We'll go to my human's."

Tumble followed Alonzo into the alley, setting the mouse down and licking his lips before he followed his brother's lead, smoothing down ruffled fur. "Dad did always say that visiting Mom was a challenge," he commented. "I guess that's why..." He had never visited Jenny himself, always waiting for her to come to the yard instead.

Alonzo nodded, wishing he could just lay down ... in front of a large bowl of tuna... his stomach growled and he shook his head. Now was time to think about the starving kittens, not his own hunger! He stretched out, then glanced into the street. His "home" was only a few streets away.
