Tumble smiled, a brief flick of an expression. "I'll get to see your humans? Will they be as... friendly as Mom's?"

Alonzo smiled wryly. "I only have one, and she's barely out of her adolescent stage. She's not very strict, I'm sure she'll let you in...maybe give us a little more to take back to the junkyard." He added hopefully.

"Enough for them and us?" Tumble asked hopefully, picking up the mouse again.

Alonzo frowned. "I don't know. Maybe if we stick around awhile, hoard what we can." He started to walk down the street. "In any case...it may be a while until we can eat, Tumble," Alonzo told him sadly.

Tumble sighed, walking beside Alonzo. "I know. And I'll ignore my stomach to feed the kittens. It just gets harder every day."

"I know," Alonzo replied quietly. "And you promise me if you get too weak you'll eat. If you push your limits too much you'll be of no use to the kittens ... and, Tumble, I need you." He said quietly, brotherly.

Tumble nodded, butting his head against Alonzo's shoulder. "You promise me the same, 'Lonz. We all need you."

"You over-exaggerate my usefulness." Alonzo said softly, half-teasingly. He gently nuzzled his brother as they approached his street.

"Not to me," Tumble said in all seriousness. "And not to Munkustrap either, I don't think." He looked around at all the human houses. "Which one is yours?"

"The pink one," Alonzo said wryly. The color stood out obnoxiously against the other, duller, more normal houses. He walked up the pathway, approaching the rose-colored door. He found the small cat flap and started to edge inside, nodding his head to indicate the others should do the same.

Tumble adjusted his grasp on the dead mouse and followed Alonzo inside. He stuck close to his brother, his posture very defensive. He hadn't been inside a human house since he was a kitten.

Alonzo sniffed the air cautiously for a sign of his human. He hadn't been home in a while - it felt strange to him after all that had happened since his last visit. He wondered if his human had worried about him... "I don't think she's home," He said finally.

"Soo... food?" Tumble set the mouse down and sat beside it, looking to Alonzo for guidance. Was it easier or harder to get food when the humans weren't around?

Alonzo trotted over to the place where his food dishes usually lay...they were cleared out, apparently his owner hadn't been expecting him. He frowned. "If we can get up on the counter, I'm sure there's lots of food."

"Counter? No problem." Tumble looked up at the counter, doing a few internal measurements as he twitched his whiskers. He backed up, wriggled, and then bolted forward. With a bounce and a jump, he flipped up onto the counter, catching himself perfectly. Oh yeah, and he sticks the landing AGAIN! With a big grin, Tumble turned to look down at Alonzo. "Where from here?"
