We had a bit of a problem with the characters getting out of control lately, so I was trying to find a way to help keep the players keep a good grip on their characters. Tell me what you think about this, or if you have any way to improve it.
There are six character stats:
Strength (Str): The strength of a character - higher Str = more damaging attacks
Dexterity (Dex): This is the flexibility and reflexes of the character. Higher Dex = more likely your attack will hit/more likely you can dodge an attack.
Constitution (Con): This is how much damage your character can take. The higher the Con, the longer your character can fight and more wounds your character can take before falling
Wisdom (Wis): How perceptive your character is/aware of the world around him/her. Wiser characters have a better chance of seeing things/figuring out the world around them (Example: Etcetera figuring out that Deuteronomy is the kitten shows her wisdom)
Intelligience (Int): How smart your character is - how strong his/her magic is (if a magic cat). Most cats won't have too much intelligence, but the magic cats and Deuteronomy would.
Charisma (Cha): How attractive/persuasive your character is. Pretty characters have higher charisma and are more likely to convince others to do what they want.
Wisdom and Intelligience are close, so here are examples of the four mixes
Low Wis; Low Int: An idiot in all senses of the word.
Low Wis; High Int: Apollinax is very clever and can put things together quickly, but doesn't have much common sense. He often jumps to the wrong conclusion, but can explain it logically.
High Wis; Low Int: Etcetera is very perceptive of the world around her, able to figure out things like Deuteronomy's rebirth and how to deliver kittens. She's not very bright, though, and offten doesn't understand what's going on - she just knows that it IS going on.
High Wis; High Int: Deuteronomy. Smart, wise, the cat everyone looks up to.
Okay. Now that the stats are explained... why? Why have them?
The characters need to be balanced. It wouldn't make sense for Burelle, for example, who spent her whole life figuring out to be beautiful and flirtatious, to be a good fighter as well - she wouldn't have had time to work on both. Nor would it make sense for Etcetera, who is still a kitten, to be as wise as Deuteronomy, who's had decades to learn.
Kittens can have stats that range from 0-8.
When a kitten turns 2, their stats can reach a max of 9.
At age 3, a cat can have 10 as their stat.
At 5, they can have 11
Age 10 = stat max of 12
15 = 13
20=14
And so on, adding one stat max at every five years.
All cats can have 16 points to spread between the stats when they're born. They get an additional 6 points when they turn one, 6 points when they turn two (for a total of 28 when you're no longer a kitten), and one point every year after that (you develop fastest when you're a kitten). At every five years (5, 10, 15), all your stats get a boost of 1. When you turn 20, and every five years after that, Str, Dex, and Con go down one, but Wis, Int, and Cha go up one (to show old age effects on your deteriorating body).
If you'd like, you can subtract points, and give your character a negative score in some stats in order to give more to other stats. Keep in mind that a score of 2 in a stat is average.
For example:
Munkustrap: Starts with 16. + 6 for turning 1 (22) + 6 for turning 2 (28) +1 for turning 3, +1 for turning 4, +1 for turning 5 (31). All stats get +1 boost for turning 5 (37)
Stats can be a max of 11 (10 for adult, + 1 for being five)
Str: 8
Dex: 7
Con: 7
Wis: 6
Int: 4
Cha: 5
8+7+7+6+4+5 = 37
Reborn kittens can keep their Wis, Int, and Cha scores, but must make new Str, Dex, and Con. They have 8 points to spread between those three skills. Other than that, they gain their normal points.
If this isn't making sense, let me know. If you'd like some help, just let me know.
When you have your character's stats, you can put them here.
