At a little under a year old, Etcetera is one of the youngest members of the Jellicle tribe, but she doesn’t seem aware of this little fact. More times than the older cats care to count, she has been caught zooming off to hang out with adults or adolescents. She loves climbing to high places (and leaping off them), walking along narrow rails (she’s trying to figure out how to balance on a wire), poking her nose into every hole and crevice (she once got stuck entirely inside a bottle that Munkustrap had to break to rescue her), and hunting mice.
That last love is the most worrisome for her caretakers, because, while Etcy actually is a good huntress, mice are about all she can hunt. Just about everything else is her size or larger, and while there are some mice in the junkyard, there’s also a colony of rats. Many fear that Etcy will one day attempt to hunt a rat twice her size, and get killed for it. Munkustrap, as a result, encourages the adults in the tribe to hunt the rats and keep them away from the main junkyard areas.
Etcetera is a pretty little queenkit, mostly white, with orange and black stripes. Her eyes are starting to shift away from the blue of kittenhood to a brilliant green. She loves to dance and sing, and, while good at both, is better at dancing. Etcy is easily small enough to curl up in the hands of Munkustrap’s human, but she hasn’t seen him yet. She’s only seen humans once, at a distance, when she snuck out of the yard. They terrified her.
Like most of the queens in the junkyard, Etcetera has a crush on the Rum Tum Tugger, but her crush borders on obsession… aw, who am I kidding. Etcetera is obsessed with the Tugger. She has a little toy she calls her snugglebunny which is a patchwork of rags and fluff that bears a slight resemblance to the object of her affections. She cannot sleep without it. Etcy is certain she and Tugger have a mystical connection, and that one day, when she’s officially a queen, he’ll cast aside his playboy ways and declare his eternal, undying love for Etcy. Only one thing could spoil this plan for her future, and that is if Tugger should die before they get married. Etcy doesn’t think that would happen, but hey, a girl’s gotta have a backup plan, right?
In her case, Etcy’s backup is Mistoffelees. He’s younger than a lot of the other toms in the tribe, he’s very pretty, with his shiny black and white fur, and he has the added bonus of being able to do magic. Mistoffelees is also usually very nice to Etcy and the other kittens, except when he’s being a grumpybutt, but that’s okay, Etcy can forgive him in the name of love.
Munkustrap is Etcy’s second backup (a girl has to plan in event of emergencies!). He’s a lot older than Mistoffelees, bordering on ancient, but he’s very, very nice, and he’s strong too. She also likes his fur – there aren’t many grey cats in the yard.
After Munkustrap would be Alonzo. He’s also older, but, like Munkustrap, he’s a good fighter, and he keeps her safe.
Then there’s Mungojerrie. Etcy thinks he’s already married, but she’s sure he and Rumpleteazer would understand if everyone else on her list died. He’s funny, after all, and he likes playing with her and the other kittens.
The Rumpus Cat is on the list too. He’s very pretty, and very strong, even if he is just a little freaky. Etcy figures she could put up with some freakiness, if it came down to it.
Coricopat is near the bottom of Etcy’s list. He’s very pretty, and he has some magic too, not as much as Mistoffelees, but some. He’s a bit scary, though, so Etcy hopes Tugger, Mistoffelees, Munkustrap, Alonzo, Mungojerrie, and Rumpus Cat don’t all die and leave her with Coricopat as her mate.
Above and beyond all those cats, though, Etcy loves the Tugger. Ever since she first laid eyes on him (and he was the first thing she saw), she had been lost. Her mother, Jellylorum, doesn’t understand it.
When Etcy was a baby, she didn’t want to open her eyes. She liked the darkness, and liked how her momma kept cuddling her. When Etcy continued to refuse to open her eyes a week after she was supposed to, Jelly had taken her around to other cats in desperation, hoping one of them could convince the kitten to view the world. Munkustrap had been with Tugger at the time, and when he took Etcetera to try and talk her into opening up, Tugger had reached over and tickled her. Etcy had giggled, catching his paw in hers, and she decided she liked how this new cat smelled, but she didn’t know what to call him. So, she opened her eyes, and saw the Rum Tum Tugger, and she decided that if the world was this beautiful, she never wanted to close her eyes again.
This event is also believed to be the reason why Etcetera doesn’t seem to sleep very long or very often (and getting her to go back to sleep after she’s been woken is a gamble – if she’s genuinely tired, she’ll collapse again pretty quickly, but if she already slept more than an hour, she’ll be bouncing off the walls).
Etcetera lives in the nursery dresser with her mom and the other kittens. Electra and Jemima are her bestest friends, while other young cats, like Pouncival and Victoria, are counted among her close friends.
