I'm going to try to keep the rules as short as possible, but if you have any suggestions for things to add to this list, feel free to let me know.
Rule #1
Be respectful of all other players at all times. This means several things: Do not flame, do not be purposely annoying, and do not take control of other characters without their players' permission (God-moding, power-playing).
Rule #2
Please use the best grammar and spelling you can. While you don't have to be wordy, you do have to be easily understood. Some mistakes are acceptable. perfectly normal, and easily forgiven (see rule #1).
Rule #3
If you go TWO WEEKS without posting in-character and without notifying at least one of the moderators a good reason, your character will be made available for others to claim. You may reclaim your old character once, if, for example, your computer explodes and you can't get on to tell a moderator for two weeks, or you're sick in bed, or something like that. However, if you make a habit of disappearing, you're going to lose your character for good.
Now. As far as actually playing goes, there are a few things I'd like you to keep in mind.
Please play in a third person point-of-view. Munkustrap leaped onto the hood of the car and surveyed the junkyard, muttering, "I hope Macavity isn't around." is good. I leaped onto the hood of the car and surveyed the junkyard, muttering, "I hope Macavity isn't around." or Munkustrap: ~leaps onto hood of the car~ ~surveys junkyard~ ~mutters~ I hope Macavity isn't around. isn't.
While I am fairly lenient in terms of what is allowed in the game (relationshipwise, ratingwise, ingamelanguagewise, violencewise, etc.), please try to keep general posts to a PG-13 level. We may have younger people on the board. There may be a board for higher-rated games, but let's keep most things kitten-friendly, okay?
As a addition to that: incest. It is somewhat implied that most of the cats in the tribe are descendants of Deuteronomy, and therefore, related. However, that means that if two cats hook up, it's an incestuous relationship. Let's say, though, for the sake of this game, that as long as two cats are not direct siblings (in the same litter of kittens), the other cats don't consider it incest. Two cats from the same litter, though, hooking up is frowned upon by the tribe (but not forbidden in the game. Look under lenient relationshipwise).
All the characters are cats, but it is fun to picture the actors and the way they move as compared to a real cat (real cats can't do Tugger's hip gyrations, or Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer's double cartwheel). To have a best of both worlds type of game, let's say that the jellicle cats are like the dancers, but are perceived by humans as normal cats. The cats can understand the humans, but humans cannot understand the cats (unless there are special circumstances, like a spell from Mistoffelees).
Finally, if any problems come up, or you have any ideas on how to improve this game and this board, please, please, PLEASE let me or a moderator know. (If you'd like to be a moderator, let me know.)
EDIT: A note on ages.
In this world, a cat is considered a kitten until they reach the age of two years old, however, they are considered an adolescent from roughly one and a half years to two, depending on their level of maturity. Many cats are continued to be considered adolescents for up to a year after leaving kittenhood, again, this duration depends on their maturity and actions. By the age of four, however, just about every cat is considered a full adult, albeit a young one. The average lifespan for a cat is 18 years, with house cats often living longer and stray cats sometimes living shorter.
