"I... I'm sorry, but I'm not joking. You... you are her father." She looked at the Maine Coon, her eyes serious. "You don't have to be fatherly towards her, don't think that you have to. I just thought you had a right to know. I know being a father was never really on your agenda, but it wasn't on mine, either. I just wanted you to know so..." She paused, trying to put her thoughts into words. "So that when she grew up, you wouldn't try anything." She realized how stupid that sounded.
She sighed. "Look Tugger, you don't have to be responsible for her or anything. But I think you have the right to know."

Tugger softened, slightly. He was being stupid. This was probably hard on Bomba, too. But still. . . the enormity of what she had just told him was so unfathomable that he couldn't touch it just yet. Hadn't he ever imagined this might happen? Probably naively, once or twice. . . Somehow, he thought that such scenarios could never happen to him, though. He was the Tugger. He caused messes for a living. He could get himself out of every one. . . except this one.
He sighed, and dropped his head. "I know you're not."
Nothing was said for a few more pensive moments, and then, suddenly, he drew the Scarlet Queen into an embrace - not the kind of embrace that had caused this whole matter to begin with, but one that was almost. . . friendly. It acknowledged that they had changed, irreversibly, and that despite how either of them might've wanted to reverse it, the change couldn't be undone. It was probaly for the better.
"I'll try." He said this as he released her, surprising even himself by letting the unchecked thought slip. "I want to try. . . just, give me time?"
He waited a few more seconds, and then drudged up a self-satirical smile. "Munkustrap should think twice before he speaks, huh?"

Jellylorum looked up at Etcetera's cry to see her comforting Apollinax. "Let me take him, Etcy," she said, holding out her arms to take the kitten. She knew how to deal with colicky kittens. "Jemmy, be a dear and keep an eye on Bella while I take care of Apollinax." She didn't want the small queenkit to wiggle away on them. That would be dreadful!

Etcetera passed Apollinax off to her momma, untangling his claws from her short fur and watching him with worried eyes.
Apollinax continued to cry silently, alternating between curling in on himself and flailing his limbs out. Yummy-cat just yanked away from him! That wasn't fair!
Munkustrap continued to keep one paw curled around Ariadne, watching Apollinax with worried eyes. Was the tomkit all right? What was wrong with him? Had he gotten hurt somehow? Was he hungry? It was taking all of his self-control to lie still and not get up and check on the kitten. Everything about Munkustrap, from his fatherly feelings toward the kitten to his positions as Protector and temporary-Leader of the tribe, it was all telling him to make sure Apollinax was fine... but his presence would only make things worse.
He could only make things worse.

Jellylorum gently took Apollinax into her arms and purred soothingly to the young tomkit. "What's wrong, baby?" she purred, stroking the fur on his head gently.

Apollinax flailed and smacked his lips together. Yummy-cat! Where was yummy-cat!?

Hmm. . . Bomba wanted to see Tugger alone? She arched a curious brow and set down the wiggling Alicia. She licked her gently between the ears and whispered for her to stay there. She was going to see what exactly they were doing. The Queen slinked over to the edge of the doorway, making sure she couldn't be seen. She listened, her ears perked for their conversation.
What she found out made her gasp softly. Tugger? A father?! That was a laugh if she ever heard one. Well, it figured that he wouldn't get out of fatherhood so quickly. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Demeter almost thought to be kitnapping his kitten, just for the fun of having to make him be a part of it, but that would be too much. Two kittens were already a handful. Besides, her humans would not appriciate three little ones running about.
At any rate, this information was priceless.

Bombalurina smiled. "Yeah, I guess so."
She kissed him softly on the cheek. "Thank you. I know this is hard... it was hard for me too... but you get sorta used to it. Eventually."
She wasn't sure Tugger would make the best father, but he sure as hell could be the best uncle. Or 'I'm-your-biological-father-but-I'm-letting-my-best-friend-be-your-dad' tom.

Alicia mewed, missing Demeter already. She crawled around in a circle mewing. Why did she leave her? Did nice cat not like her? She liked nice cat!
Cassandra looked at Alicia, then a Demter. What was Demeter up too? Cassandra turned her attention back to the kitten though, watching her and making sure she didn't wonder again.

Tugger accepted the kiss with a blink, and then gave Bomba a half-hearted scowl - the only queens who were supposed to kiss you on the cheek were the ones who were related to you. This coming from the Scarlet Queen, he suddenly felt very. . . old.
"Thanks for the advice." If he didn't make light out of the situation, he didn't know how to cope with it.
He was a father. A father with a daughter. OhCat. The knowledge alone. . .
Outwardly, however, he remained semi-composed. It wouldn't do to lose his cool. After standing around a bit, he cleared his throat and spoke again.
"So, uh. . . shall we head back inside?" There was nothing left to be said here, and he was afraid if he waited around any longer, he was going to end up voicing some things he might regret later.

Jellylorum patted Apollinax on the head and smiled. "He's just a little hungry." She nuzzled the kitten gently. "Don't worry, your mama will be back soon."

"Sure," Bombalurina said softly. She knew this wasn't easy on Tugger. It had been hard on her, too.
With a final, smiling nod at Tugger, Bomba went back into the closet. She settled next to Munkus and smiled, confidant no one had heard her conversation with Tugger.
(Wow it's hard writing with a cell. o.o)

"What was that all about?" Munkus asked quietly, nuzzling Bomba's cheek. He wasn't jealous, just... curious. Why did Bomba need to talk to Tugger alone?

Tugger followed the Scarlet Queen, and was startled to confront Demeter at the door - this startlement turned to suspicion when he saw her stance, though. He didn't appreciate the fact that it looked like she'd been eavesdropping. Did she go out of her way to find someone to sabotage?
He brushed past her without recognition, however, and took his spot next to Etcetera again. This time, he didn't touch her, though - his eyes kept falling warily on the rust-black tabby kitten in the corner. Bella. She was his. . . his and Bomba's.
The queenkit wriggled in her sleep, oblivious to the Maine Coon's glances (and with eyes not yet open, she would've been anyhow, conscious or not). He had to admit, now that he was looking for a resemblance, he could see it. . . even now, she was slightly fluffier than the rest of her siblings.
He swallowed. He didn't know what to feel about her.

Demeter hissed at Tugger in return. She would've stayed, but she had a plan to go think about anyway. A window was as good as any place to think. She turned tail and ran out of the closet, knowing she looked perfectly suspicious, but not caring. It wouldn't matter soon anywho.
