"I do what I can for them..." Deuteronomy said, eyes wandering over the sleeping forms. "I never said I'm anything more than a normal cat with a few sparks to my name, and I'm often made out to be more, but anything I can do for them is worth the effort."
He had never been a firm believer in blood, or even a cat's raising. After all, his human's parents were like Pollicles some of the time, the way they argued, and she was as quite as a mouse. Deuteronomy had been raised by a cat everyone was too afraid to call anything but his father despite his mother's questionable motives, and had liked to think he had turned out nothing like him.

"A few sparks and a huge heart," Munkustrap said. He understood what Deuteronomy was saying, though, as he felt the same way. This tribe accepted him, so he repaid them by protecting them. They looked up to him, and he returned their gratitude by continuing to keep them safe, no matter what the personal cost was.
Munkustrap glanced over at Quaxo, and then to Bomba. Maybe the personal cost would start mattering...

A huge heart that was going to get him in trouble some day, if not kill him... Deuteronomy would do anything for his tribe, and nearly everything to those outside his tribe if they asked for his help. His magic, his protection, his advice... If it was needed, it would be given.
"As I said before, blood counts for nothing here," he sighed softly, shaking his head. "This tribe is a family, no matter how many different litters they were born in."

Munkustrap leaned over and nuzzled Deuteronomy, saying nothing more.
Burelle winced as Simeon bit down hard on her paw. He might not have teeth yet, but he did have strong jaws. She gave him a light tap on the nose, scolding him gently. "You behave yourself, little tom, or you're going to go back down with your sisters! Biting people is bad."
"Unless the peoples is bad," Etcetera said. "And then you can bites them, to chase them away, if they's gonna hurt you, right?"
((Whenever Munk and Deut get together, they get very dense in what they say. They brood too much. ~pokes them~))

(( XD Emos, the pair of them.))
"If he's biting now, he'll be a terror when it comes time for him to teeth," laughed Deuteronomy. "And if you think you're in danger, little one, it never hurts to give them a nip. Well, I suppose if they were dangling you over something and you made them drop you..."

"Oh, Heavyside," Burelle said, closing her eyes and grimacing. "That's the part about motherhood I always forget... nursing teething kittens."
"Hear that?" Etcetera addressed Pussine now, nuzzling the little kitten. "If'n you's in trouble, you can bite. But you doesn't bite your momma. Cause that's bad. And you doesn't bite if the bad guys'll drop you, cause that's bad too."
Pussine squeaked unintelligably again.

"I'll never know why males always seem to dominate most species' societies," noted Deuteronomy, arching an eyebrow and smiling. "It seems to be the females who have to deal with all of the things the males never could."

"Males dominate because the females are too busy dealing with all the other things," Burelle said, stroking Simeon's ears. "Though, if you're volunteering, I'd be more than happy to let you nurse the kits once their teeth start coming in." She smiled up at the old cat, knowing he couldn't take her up on her offer, even if he wanted to.
"When does they start talking normal?" Etcetera asked, looking up. "I mean, I can understands Pussine, but yous can't. She wants to be a momma too, just like me and Brelle."

"I don't think I would even if I could," chuckled Deuteronomy. "Though I do believe that's the reason humans invented bottles. They're not a bright lot, as a whole, but I will admit they can do a lot with opposable thumbs."

"Psh..." Burelle made a scornful sound, shaking her head. "You should nurse your kittens, not let them get spoon-fed by some ignorant human. How are they supposed to recognize their mother if they interact with some contraption?" One time, Burelle's litter had been discovered by inquisitive humans, and she had to fight them off to keep them from kidnapping her kittens. Nearly lost an ear, that time, but she made it through, and she hid her kittens better after that. This piano was safe for her kittens - no human could fit through the hole the cats used, not even a human kitten.
"Give them a couple weeks," Munkustrap told Etcetera, wondering if the older kitten really could understand the younger one, or if she was just making stuff up. "Keep talking to her, so she can learn words."

|| Sorry, we had to go to the store last night and then we had to go eat dinner so by the time I got back home, I couldn't get on the computer.... Sorry 'bout that... I'll try to catch up but for now, I'll just have Electra sneek back inside for some reason....|| Electra snuck back into the piano, trying not to be seen. She had been out, catching mice again. Luckily, this time, she didn't get sick. She walked over to her bed, keeping an eye out for the adults, incase they caught her. Mali and Aprilli put up a fit as Mali tackled Aprilli.

"Yes, but with the bottle, the males don't have any excuse for not doing their part," Deuteronomy pointed out. "Besides, not all human kits are raised with their mother and her male mate any more..."
He was mainly thinking of one of Christine's few friends from her music classes, a girl his human called Ama (though he couldn't fanthom what that was short for). It had been mentioned that the girl was housed by two mated males. Either she was from a female human who had rejected her or died, or human biology was more different from felines than he thought...

Electra eyed Deuteronomy, hoping that he wouldn't rat her out. Mali and Aprilli were still going at it.

"Girls, be ladies," Burelle scolded the kittens, separating Mali and Aprilli. "Mali, stop picking on your little sister."
"Looky, Electra!" Etcetera called out. "Pussine can say my name!" She picked up the kitten, cradling the little head like Brelle had shown her, and Pussine squeaked.
"Orphaned?" Munkustrap couldn't think of another reason for a kit to not be raised with its mother, at least. Being raised without a father could make sense.

Electra heard her name and turned around to see Etcy cradling Pussine. " Oh, cool." Electra said walking over to them, acting like she hadn't been out side.
