Deuteronomy watched Etcetera trying to "cure" Munkustrap, managing a smile. The kit meant so well... And Munkustrap did look... wilted. Guilt washed over the cat, and he too closed his eyes.
The tribe will hurt for my death, all over a human... Perhaps it was wrong of me to do this. It was selfish, to put my desires over my tribe...

Etcetera continued to hold out her snugglebunny even after Munkstrap closed his eyes, her smile slowly fading and turning into a sad frown. She crawled over to Brelle and squeezed in between the queen and Tumbley, not noticing the new kitten. She easily filled the space Quaxo had left when he moved. "I think Munkstrap's sick, Brelle," she said. "But he doesn't want my snugglebunny."

Rusty cautiously followed Alonzo into the piano. She kept low and was on constant alert, there wereso many cats she was unsure which way to turn. She paused just inside the entrance her eyes darting fearfully and her muscles bunched ready to run.

Munkustrap didn't even lift his head when the new cat entered. Tumble noticed this after he had looked at her, and then over to Munkustrap to see what his reaction would be. "Munkus?" When the Protector still didn't open his eyes, Tumble frowned and rose to his feet. He padded over to Rusty and offered her a smile. "Hi. I'm Tumblebrutus. Who are you, and what brings you to the Jellicle tribe?" He tried to sound as friendly as possible, though he kept shooting worried looks over at the silver tabby. It should be Munkustrap's job to greet the new cats, not Tumble's!

"This is Rusty," Alonzo told Tumble. "I found her outside in a pile of junk...she's a street cat, I believe," He looked at the new cat. "Aren't you? You said you'd once had a family..."

Deuteronomy managed to roll over, trying to get a good look at the newcomer. The tribe was growing quickly... No doubt about that.

"Hi, Rusty," Tumble said. "You're welcome to join the Jellicles, I'm sure..." He shot another glance at Munkustrap, and then looked over at Alonzo. "Do you know what's up with him?" he whispered. "He's barely moved since he got back, except to give Burelle a new kitten and push the others away..."

Rusty shook her head clearing it of the shock of suddenly seing so many cats. When she realie they were friendly she stood tall, her head and tail up. "I am NOT a street cat" she hissed "I've only been on the streets a day that hardly classifies me as vermin" she showed her contempt for street cats

Alonzo frowned, glacing over Tumble's shoulder to look at Munkustrap. He surveyed the room - nothing looked like it could be the cause for Munkustrap's clear depression. "The last time we talked he was nothing like...this," He said. "I'll go see what's up..." Alonzo walked slowly over to Munkustrap and sat down beside him.
"'Straps..." He said quietly, placing a paw on his shoulder. "What's got you so down?"

Tumble held up his paws in defense at Rusty's outburst. "Hey, there's nothing wrong with being a street cat. Munkustrap, our Protector, was a street cat before he joined us." He gestured to the silver tabby. "That's Munkustrap. He's in charge when our leader, Old Deuteronomy, isn't around. Deuteronomy's a house cat, you see, so he only comes by on visits, and doesn't live here."
Munkustrap opened his eyes again when Alonzo approached him. "Is everyone here?" he asked quietly, pushing himself to his feet. He wasn't ignoring Alonzo's question, just postponing the answer until everyone was paying attention.

"House cat?" She looked up at the one Tumblebrutus had signalled as he spoke "Munkustrap..." she said under her breath, she recognised that name though she couldn't remember where.
((I kinda making up a history for her as I go))

((That's fine, just as long as it doesn't contradict any of the histories already in play.))

Alonzo looked around the room. "Yes, they're all here..." He confirmed. His brow furrowed. The air felt so still ... Munkustrap's news couldn't be good; it couldn't be anywhere near good.

Munkustrap nodded and took a deep breath, looking around the room. "Everyone, can I have your attention for a moment?" He waited, taking the time it took for everyone to stop talking and look his way to force his voice into a calm and rather emotionless tone. "Earlier today, I learned of a tragedy. Our Leader, Old Deuteronomy, is dead."

Alonzo could have sworn he'd gone deaf, for there was a rather harsh silence after Munkustrap's words. At least in his own head, there was nothing but buzzing. Deuteronomy? Dead? Their leader...their healer...their father-figure, in many ways. He was glad he'd been sitting, because he felt like he wanted to fall over.
This would mean so many things for the tribe. As long as most anyone could remember, Deuteronomy had been there to lead them, and comfort them. He closed his eyes, silently mourning the cat.
